Ghanos (Charles Sogli): How Tall Is Ghana’s Giant, and Can He Play Basketball?
Ghanos is the online name of Charles Sogli, a Ghanaian man whose reported height runs from 7’6″ to more than 8 feet depending on who is counting. Our video looks at him as a basketball curiosity: a man who may be taller than any NBA player in history. This page does a different job. It separates what news outlets have actually reported from what we could not confirm.

Who Is Ghanos?
Charles Sogli comes from the Volta Region in eastern Ghana. Ghanaian media first wrote about him in June 2020, when YEN reported that he stood 7’6″. A year later the French-language site Koaci gave his age as 22, his height as about 2.4 meters and his shoe size as 16. At that time he was training as a welder.
The attention changed his life quickly. In August 2021 YEN described him being hosted at a hotel as a local celebrity, and on September 13, 2021 he signed an ambassador deal with Twellium Industrial Company, a Ghanaian drinks maker.
How Tall Is Ghanos Really?
Nobody knows, and that is the honest answer. The published numbers do not agree with each other:
- 7’6″ (229 cm): YEN, June 2020 and August 2021.
- About 2.4 m (7’10”): Koaci, July 2021.
- 251 cm (8’3″): YEN, September 2021.
That is a spread of more than 20 centimeters in reports written within 15 months of each other. None of them cites a measurement by a league, a federation or a record body. Our video uses 7’10”, and his own page has claimed 8 feet. We could not find an independent source for either number.
Until a team or league measures him, every figure should be read as a claim, not a listing.
How He Compares With the Tallest Players Ever
Even the lowest report would put him level with the tallest men to play in the NBA.
| Player | Height | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Gheorghe Muresan | 7’7″ | Tallest in NBA history, tied |
| Manute Bol | 7’7″ | Tallest in NBA history, tied |
| Tacko Fall | 7’6″ | Listed height |
| Sun Mingming | 7’9″ (2.36 m) | Played professionally in China, never in the NBA |
| Olivier Rioux | 7’9″ | Tallest player in college basketball |
| Ghanos | 7’6″ to 8’3″ | Reported, never officially measured |
The NBA comparison heights come from The Hoops Geek.
Does Ghanos Actually Play Basketball?
Our video links him to MPAC Sports in Dubai. MPAC is a real organization: Gulf News covered its basketball events in 2018 and named Luqman Rashad as the founder. What we could not find is any roster, box score or league page with Sogli’s name on it.
The video also says he can dunk without jumping. At his size that is believable, since a man well over seven and a half feet tall can reach a 10-foot rim flat-footed. Believable is not the same as documented, and we found no footage from an organized game.
So the fair summary is this: he has been connected to basketball, but there is no public record of him playing it competitively.
Could Ghanos Play in the NBA?
Almost certainly not, and height is not the reason.
- Age. If the 2021 reports are right, he is about 27 now. NBA projects of his type usually start organized basketball as teenagers.
- No playing record. There are no statistics, at any level, to evaluate.
- History. Sun Mingming was 7’9″, trained in the United States and still never appeared in an NBA game. Extreme height opens a door; it does not carry a player through it.
None of that makes him less interesting. It just means he belongs in the conversation about the tallest people connected to the sport, not the conversation about prospects.
What Would Change Our View
Three things: an official measurement, a place on a real roster, and game statistics. If any of those appear, we will update this page.
Why Ghanos is not in our database
The database lists players born in 2001 or later who stand 7’0″ or taller and appear on a 2026-27 roster. Sogli’s reported age puts his birth year around 1999, his height has never been officially measured, and we found no roster. If you want verified giants, the database has nearly 400 of them, sorted tallest first.
