Jamarion Sharp Scouting Report: The 7’5″ Defensive Player of the Year Without a Team

By Low Key NBA

Jamarion Sharp is listed at 7 feet 5 inches, one inch taller than Victor Wembanyama. He led all of college basketball in blocked shots twice, and in April 2026 he was named the G League’s Defensive Player of the Year. The LA Clippers gave him a two-way contract over the summer and then waived him on September 25. As of early October he does not have a team. This report covers how a player this tall and this good at one thing is still looking for a job.

Update: our video below was published on June 17, 2026, before the Clippers signing and release.

Who Is Jamarion Sharp?

Sharp is from Hopkinsville, Kentucky. He started at John A. Logan College, a junior college in Illinois, where he blocked 5.8 shots a game. He then spent two seasons at Western Kentucky and led the entire NCAA in blocks both years, with 4.6 and 4.1 a game, winning Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year twice, according to his career record. A final college season at Ole Miss was quieter: 3.3 points and 2.4 blocks in 16 minutes.

Undrafted, Then Two Years in the G League

Nobody drafted him in 2024. Dallas signed him to training-camp contracts in both 2024 and 2025 and waived him each October, sending him to its G League team, the Texas Legends. He got better there.

  • 2024-25: 5.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.2 blocks in 21 minutes.
  • 2025-26: 7.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.9 blocks in 25 minutes, shooting 73.9 percent from the field, per RealGM.

He led the G League in blocks, made its All-Defensive Team and won Defensive Player of the Year, the first Legends player to do it. On March 20, 2026, he had 18 points, 12 rebounds and 8 blocks against the Iowa Wolves.

The Summer of 2026: Signed, Then Waived

After a short stint in Puerto Rico in April, Sharp played Summer League for Toronto and averaged 7.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.8 blocks in 18 minutes. In late July the Clippers agreed to sign him to a two-way contract. It looked like the break he needed.

It lasted about two months. On September 25 the Clippers waived him before training camp in what was described as a roster crunch. We could not find a new team for him as of October 9, 2026.

Scouting Report: Strengths and Weaknesses

What he does well

  • Shot blocking at every level. He has led a league in blocks in junior college, the NCAA and the G League.
  • Length. 7’5″ with a reported 7’9″ wingspan. Our video cites a 9’10” standing reach; we could not find a published measurement to confirm that figure.
  • Finishing. Nearly 74 percent from the field last season, almost all of it at the rim.
  • Movement. Sports Illustrated noted his quickness and mobility for his size.

What holds him back

  • Free throws. 41.5 percent in the G League last season. An NBA coach cannot leave that on the floor late in a game.
  • Offense in general. He has never averaged 9 points at any level above junior college, and he rarely passes.
  • Frame. 235 pounds is light for 7’5″. Strong centers can move him.
  • Age. He turned 25 in August and has not played an NBA regular-season game.

Is He the Wembanyama Stopper?

Our video asks whether Sharp is the blueprint for defending Wembanyama. On measurements he is one of the very few players anywhere who can look down at him. He is also quicker than most men his size.

The problem is the other end of the floor. A center who cannot score or make free throws lets the defense ignore him, and that costs more than his blocks save. The two have never played each other, and Sharp has to make an NBA roster before they can.

What Happens Next

The most likely path is a return to the G League or a contract overseas, followed by another Summer League in July 2027. The Defensive Player of the Year award shows the skill is real. The fact that he is still unsigned shows what teams think of the offense.

If he gets his free-throw shooting to even 60 percent, the calculation changes, because very few players this tall move this well. That one number is his whole NBA case.

Why Sharp is not in our database yet

Sharp qualifies for our 7-Foot Prospect Database on height and age, but the list only includes players on a current 2026-27 roster. He will be added as soon as he signs. In the meantime, see the players who are in it:

Heights and weights are listed figures. Statistics are from RealGM and his published career record; contract details are from the reports linked above. Last checked 9 October 2026.
