How old is Mohamed Dabone?
Mohamed Dabone was born on 21 October 2011, so he turned 15 on 21 October 2026. When CBS Sports looked into the question in October 2025, a EuroLeague official said the birth date shown on the league’s website “has been taken directly from his passport.” Clubs have to submit a passport to register a player, and Dabone has passed the age checks for every youth competition he has played in.
The doubts come from his size and from social media. One example that spread online was a FIBA 3×3 profile listing an 18-year-old from Togo with a similar name; FIBA told CBS Sports that anyone can create that kind of profile without documents, so it proves nothing. No document showing a different birth date has been made public. We go by the documented date, as every competition does.
How tall is Mohamed Dabone?
Dabone is listed at 6 feet 11 inches (2.10 m), with some reports and highlight clips saying 6 feet 10. His wingspan is reported at about 7 feet 4. Neither number comes from an official combine-style measurement, so treat both as approximate. Even at the low end he is already as tall as the average NBA center, and about a foot taller than an average 15-year-old boy.

Mohamed Dabone at FC Barcelona
Youth teams and the Minicopa
Dabone joined Barcelona’s youth program in 2022. In February 2024 he helped the club win the Minicopa Endesa, the under-14 tournament played alongside the Copa del Rey, and was named its MVP.
The first-team debut at 13
Barcelona called him up to first-team preseason training in August 2025. On 12 September 2025, in a preseason game against Basquet Girona, he came on in the second quarter, scored his first basket on a two-handed dunk and finished with 4 points and 3 rebounds in about 10 minutes. He was 13 years, 10 months and 22 days old, the youngest player to appear for Barcelona’s first team. Since then he has played mainly for the club’s U22 side, according to CBS Sports.
EuroLeague NextGen champion
In May 2026 he won the EuroLeague Next Generation Tournament with Barcelona’s junior team in Athens. Barcelona beat Real Madrid 85-77 in the final, and Dabone scored 10 points in it, playing against opponents up to four years older.

Spanish nationality
On 28 July 2026 Spain’s Council of Ministers granted Dabone Spanish nationality by “carta de naturaleza”, a route reserved for exceptional circumstances. The royal decree (665/2026) was published in Spain’s official gazette, the BOE, on 29 July. He was born in Burkina Faso. The decree itself says nothing about national teams; which country he represents will depend on his own choice and on FIBA’s eligibility rules.
Scouting Report: Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
- Size and length that would stand out at any level, at 15.
- Runs the floor like a wing and finishes above the rim; scout Rafael Barlowe, quoted by CBS Sports in October 2025, described him as an athletic lob threat and a defensive anchor.
- Shot-blocking timing and the mobility to recover on defense.
- Experience against older players: U22 games, a NextGen title and a first-team preseason appearance before his 15th birthday.
Weaknesses
- Much of his production comes from being bigger than everyone else in youth games; how it holds up against adult professionals is untested beyond one preseason game.
- Half-court creation and ball handling are still developing.
- No reliable outside shot yet.
- He still has to add strength, as every 15-year-old big man does.
Is Mohamed Dabone the next Wembanyama?
The comparison is everywhere: CBS Sports and others have set him next to Victor Wembanyama and Giannis Antetokounmpo, and a Wall Street Journal headline called him a possible “next great unicorn.” The comparison is about tools, not achievement. Wembanyama was already playing in the EuroLeague and the French top division at 17. Dabone is 15, several inches shorter than Wembanyama is today, and has played one first-team preseason game. What can be said is that very few players have reached Barcelona’s first team, even for a preseason game, at his age.
When can Mohamed Dabone enter the NBA draft?
NBA rules require a player to turn 19 during the calendar year of the draft. Dabone turns 19 in October 2030, so the 2030 draft is the first one he can enter. As an international player he would become automatically eligible in 2033, the year he turns 22, if he never declares earlier. Between now and then he can develop at Barcelona or move to a U.S. high school and college, a path several European prospects have taken.
