Who Is Lewis Uvwo?

Uvwo is from Nigeria and started playing basketball as a teenager. He came through NBA Academy Africa and, according to Wikipedia, played six games in the Basketball Africa League in 2025 before moving to the United States and Prolific Prep.

By every account he is new to the game. On3 and 247Sports both put his experience at roughly three years.

The Fastest Rise in the Class

In February 2026, 247Sports ranked Uvwo 181st in the class. By May he was 18th, and by June he was in the top 10. Three events did it:

  • Nike EYBL, spring 2026: 10.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 6.3 blocks over the first session, where 247Sports called him the breakout player.
  • Peach Jam, July 2026: 11.0 points, 9.4 rebounds and 6.0 blocks in seven games, including a game with 10 points and 10 blocks against Team Herro. He was the EYBL’s first Defensive Player of the Year at the 17-and-under level.
  • adidas ABCD Camp, August 2026: camp MVP, with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks in the title game, per NBA.com.

Across 28 games on the summer circuit he averaged 9.1 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.5 blocks.

Scouting Report: Strengths and Weaknesses

What he does well

  • Shot blocking. Arguably the best in high school basketball. He blocks shots from the weak side as well as at the rim.
  • Length. A wingspan of at least 7’6″ on a 6’11” frame.
  • Mobility. Sports Illustrated notes his lateral movement and his pick-and-roll defense.
  • Rebounding and lobs. 247Sports projects him as a rim runner and lob threat from his first day in college.

What holds him back

  • Offense. Nine points a game on the summer circuit, mostly dunks and putbacks.
  • Experience. Three years of basketball means gaps in positioning and decision-making.
  • Skill. He has said he wants to improve his ball handling and shooting.

Where Will Lewis Uvwo Play College Basketball?

He has more than 30 scholarship offers and has cut his list to four: Baylor, California, Kentucky and Providence. He took official visits to all four between late August and mid-September 2026.

Sports Illustrated reported on 9 October that he has finished his visits and is expected to announce in the next few weeks. No leader has been named. We will update this page when he commits.

Is a 6’11” Center Tall Enough for the NBA?

Yes, when he has these arms. The average NBA center is listed at about 6’10” or 6’11”, and what matters at the rim is reach, not the number on the roster. A wingspan of 7’6″ or more gives Uvwo the reach of a much taller player.

The real question is offense. NBA teams draft shot blockers who cannot score every year, and their careers depend on whether they can finish, set screens and make free throws. Uvwo has two seasons, one in high school and one in college, to show that.

He is second on our 2028 NBA draft center rankings, behind Duke’s Joaquim Boumtje-Boumtje.

What Comes Next

A college decision, then a senior season at Prolific Prep against a national schedule. He becomes eligible for the NBA draft in 2028, a year after finishing high school.
