NBA Players from Belgium

The nickname the “Belgian Lions also know the Belgian National Basketball Team”. So far they have qualified 13 times for the FIBA EuroBasket. They achieved their best result in 1974 when they finished fourth. In addition to that, they played on the Summer Olympic Games in 1936, 1948, and 1952. Their best placement was at London’s 1948 Olympic Games when they finished at the 11th place. The EuroBasket 2011 was their first one for which they have managed to qualify after a dry spell that lasted almost two decades.

Xavier Henry

Henry was born on March 15, 1991, in Ghent, Belgium. He is 6’ 6” and plays as a small forward/shooting guard. Before his NBA career, he played college basketball with the Kansas Jayhawks. After just one year of college basketball, he signed up for the 2010 NBA Draft. There he got picked by the Memphis Grizzlies. He spent much of his professional career between clubs from the NBA and the NBA G League. Aside from the Grizzlies, he also played for New Orleans Hornets and Los Angeles Lakers. In the G League, he played for the Iowa Energy, the Santa Cruz Warriors and the Oklahoma City Blue.

It remains to be seen if Xavier can crack an NBA roster and get serious playing time, but as of now he is Belgium’s best NBA player to date.
